With the UN sounding the alarm about an imminent famine in the Gaza Strip, the governments of France and Spain on Aug. 2, 2025, carried out airdrops of 52 tons of food.
The operation was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in a post on X, speaking of an “absolute emergency”.
“Airdrops are not enough. Israel must allow full access for humanitarian aid to address the risk of famine,” he wrote.
According to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, France sent four flights carrying 10 tons of humanitarian aid each to Gaza, from Jordan.
Spain’s move was similar. Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez announced that an Air Force A400 military aircraft transported 12 tons of food, in 24 packages of 500 kilograms, stating that this aid is equivalent to approximately 2,500 rations.
